Territories
(Noun)
An area of land grouping several distant geographical areas, inhabited by people doing their utmost to come together. Each region of France is a dairy land, boasting a distinctive terroir and rich culinary heritage. It is an absolute priority for the dairy sector to ensure the ongoing production of milk across all French regions, in order to guarantee food sovereignty and feed the country both now and in the future.
Through its long-standing roots in 90% of French departments, the dairy sector is instrumental in driving the economy and attractiveness of rural areas.
Mountain regions play a major role in dairy tradition but are also the most at risk. Additional costs relating to milk production and collection, job attractiveness and the undervaluation of milk are some of the challenges that threaten almost 65 000 direct and indirect jobs. Three action areas have been identified to reverse this trend: adopting a specific regulatory and tax framework for mountain territories, strengthening the attractiveness of employment opportunities in mountain dairy and finally, improving the value and promotion of mountain area dairy products.
