Our priorities to reinforce consumer confidence

Food safety performance

To offer our consumers a reliable guarantee, the dairy sector is mobilised to prevent food safety risks by optimising monitoring, control and investigation practices.
The Cniel was originally created to manage safety in milk and dairy products, therefore preventing the presence of pathogens in dairy products remains a sovereign issue for the interprofessional body.

GUARANTEE THE ABSENCE OF ANTIBIOTIC RESIDUES IN MILK AND FIGHT ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE

Harmonised quality criteria and testing methods are used to screen all milk production in France.
Through systematic screening, all milk collected from French farms is free from antibiotic residues – a major objective for the dairy sector.
Going beyond the mandatory food safety requirements, dairy farms implement optional quality assurance and certification initiatives.
Preventive actions are undertaken for reduced and responsible antibiotic use:

  • A rigorous global control system throughout the production chain
  • Frequency of testing determined by a national interprofessional agreement in line with evolving milk prices

REINFORCE THE PREVENTION OF FOOD SAFETY RISKS

Through the Terre France de Lait initiative, the dairy sector is committed to further strengthening the prevention of health risks by optimising surveillance, control and investigation methods.
This is upheld through an industry-wide, collective approach, with a number of actions in place to boost the safety of dairy products:

  • More robust risk management systems and greater levels of support within the industry to ensure that new risk management tools are systematically adopted
  • The introduction of innovative, high-performance surveillance and testing tools
  • Investment in knowledge acquisition
  • Relay public health messages, such as the consumer website for unpasteurised cheeses, to facilitate access to official recommendations regarding consumption
